A physics professor (Gary Cooper) is recruited by the Secret Service to travel into Italy near the close of World War II and escort a crucial scientist (Vladimir Sokoloff) to freedom. While there, he romances a local freedom-fighter (Lilli Palmer) and teams up with another agent (Robert Alda) to win the day.
